The Central Region Dragon Boat Championships were held on Saturday 3 November 2018 with assistance from the Wairarapa Dragon Boat team. As this is a sanctioned event, the Teams that are affiliated to NZDBA through CRDBA or other RSOs that compete in the Central Region Dragon Boat Championships qualify for NZDBA National Championships.
The Central Region Dragon Boat Championships consists of 2k and 500m races in women, and mixed racing classes. This year was the first time a team from Wellington Girls College participated against the Premier Womens team and acquitted themselves well. Wairarapa proved to be the fastest Premier Womens team and CentrePort were fastest in the Premier Mixed racing class.

As in previous Regional Championships, the "round the islands" 2k course proved particularly successful with some great racing and overtaking.
